Dáil Éireann Visit

Ms. Clarke's and Mrs Farren's classes had a wonderful experience recently when they paid a visit to Dáil Éireann. They were taken on an historical tour of Leinster House which was formerly the town residence of the Earl of Kildare. They sat in the Dáil Chamber ( originally a lecture hall) and watched a live debate on the Syrian crisis between TDs Claire Daly, Mick Wallace, Frances Fitzgerald and Michael Noonan. From there they were led to the opulent Senad Room to hear some well known senators such as David Norris speak. After that the tour guides led the children around the fine building. Some of the many historical artefacts that were on view to the children were the original 1916 Proclamation, the flag that JFK presented to Ireland on his visit in 1963 and a huge portrait of Countess Markevich.
Senator Moran who kindly invited the children and their teachers to the Dáil, joined the children for a question and answer session and a photo. Overall, the children thoroughly enjoyed this great opportunity and hopefully will remember the day for a long time.
