Green Schools Update

Work on our application for our 6th Green School flag is continuing apace with all classes busy working on their projects, artwork and activities based on all Green School Flag themes.

Litter and waste management is a big part of our school life with litter picking and hygiene check-ups carried out by rotas of children from 5th and 6th class daily. The Green School committee would like to remind everybody about reducing packaging on lunches taken to school and to use biodegradable wrapping whenever possible. Our Fairtrade committee wants to spread the message of remembering to look for Fairtrade products when shopping and to try and shop for locally produced items.

Our Green School committee is monitoring the progress of our recent outdoor planting and our Gardening Club is finalising the weeding and tidying up of our raised planting beds before winter sets in. To ensure some spring colour, Senior Infants and 1st Class have planted a variety of bulbs.

Before the Halloween break, 6th Class had a visit from our local TD, Mr Declan Breathnach, a former pupil of the school. Mr. Breathnach had received an email from the class with regard to local litter and waste management and was delighted to come to the school to hear the children's queries and ideas about local environmental issues. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Breathnach T.D. back to the school in the near future.
