Presentation of Tricolor

Presentation of the Triclour and Proclamation

On Wednesday, September 23rd two members of the Defence Forces, Sergeant Riccardo Lucchesi and Private Gary McKenny visited our school and presented us with a handmade Tricolour and a copy of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, as part of the State's effort to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising.
The children gathered in Halla Setanta and watched as Private McKenny presented Grace, the youngest pupil in the school, with the Tricolour. Sergeant Lucchesi gave background information on the symbolism of the Tricolour and the etiquette attached to its display and storage.
The children listened intently as Sergeant Lucchesi and Sarah, a pupil from Rang VI, read the Proclamation, which was then presented to Ryan, the oldest pupil in the school.
As part of the programme of events, pupils in all schools will be invited to write a new proclamation to reflect the hopes and aspirations of their generation.
They will also be encouraged to research their own family history back 100 years and see what their ancestors were doing around the time of the Rising.
The initiative will culminate with a dedicated Proclamation Day in all schools on 15th March next year.
