We are the Champions!

Stabannon June 13th 2015

Knockbridge National School enjoyed unprecedented success in gaelic football this
year when firstly both the boys' and girls' teams won the All-County 7s tournaments in March in Castlebellingham. The boys and girls then went on to win their respective county leagues in thrilling fashion in Stabannon at the end of the final term. In achieving this remarkable double the school writes its name into Cumann na mBunscol history as being the first school ever to achieve this memorable double. Principal and team manager Mr. Brian McDonnell, along with selector Mr. Rory McClean put their success down to the commitment of the school staff in the promotion of Gaelic games throughout the year and the support of the local clubs at grassroots level. Knockbridge School were also crowned Poc Fada champions, were beaten finalists in both hurling and camogie finals and will have a representative playing at half-time in Croke Park on the occasion the All- Ireland semi-final on August 30th. The boys football team finished off the year with a memorable first-time win in the O'Callaghan Cup, an annual inter county tournament held in Hunterstown involving teams from Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Louth. All in all , a sporting year never to be forgotten!
