A Bee-autiful visit!

A Bee-autiful visit!

After our very successful Eco Tribes project last year where Ms Conroy’s 4th and 5th Class worked closely with the Knockbridge Tidy Towns Community Organisation to build a Pollinator Friendly Garden in the village centre, we invited two bee keepers into the school this week to talk to the senior school about the work bees carry out.

The children got a great lesson on the lives and inner workings of the queen, drones and worker bees from Liam and Tommy who are based locally in Cooley. We learned many fascinating facts about these intriguing creatures and got up close and personal with a hive as we were able to make out the queen with her special markings given to her by the beekeeper.

Finally all children were entered into a raffle to take home a pot of delicious honey that these bees had made with Conor, Mark, Ellie, Ethan and Anna being the lucky recipients!
