We really enjoyed growing our caterpillars into beautiful butterflies this year. The whole process took about four weeks. Our five caterpillars arrived in a little jar. We monitored them closely as they grew and grew. Once ready, they formed a chrysalis at the top of the jar. When they were all in their chrysalis, we moved them in to a net and patiently waited for them to come out. There was great excitement when the butterflies emerged from the cocoons. We fed them with fruit, flowers, sugar and water for a few days and released them on to some flowers on the yard.
