Christmas Assembly

Christmas Assembly

There was an abundance of festive cheer in Halla Setanta today as we welcomed parents and relatives of our pupils to join in the Christmas cheer as we held our December Assembly.

6th Class opened the ceremony with a couple of Christmas tunes played superbly on the tin whistle. Conducted by their teachers Ms Clarke and Ms Conroy, with Ms Sweeney accompanying on the keyboard, we were treated to beautiful renditions of Joy to the World and Silent Night.

The whole school have been practising diligently for the past fortnight and this hard work was evident as they all joined together to sing a beautiful contemporary Christmas song, Somewhere Only We Know.

It was then time for the opening prayer as Tony from 6th class delivered expertly with Fr. Rushe blessing the crowd in attendance and thanking God for our wonderful school and all of us that belong to it.

There was a lot on the agenda as Master spoke about the highlights over the past calendar year. Events like Eco Tribes, religous sacraments, Family Fun Quizzes and the Family Fun Run. He stressed the importance of family and community spirit while praising the behaviour and work ethic of the student body. He looked forward to events in the new year such as our quest for a 7th Green Flag, our 50th birthday celebrations and an internet safety talk organised by the Parents and Friends Association.

It was then time for some awards! The Green Schools ran a poetry competition with Ms Conroy’s 6th Class winning top spot, but there were certificates for pupils in recognition of their outstanding efforts.

Two art competitions prize winners were also presented with certificates and selection boxes. Rebecca was the overall winner of the Credit Union poster competition, while Conor was the overall winner of the Amnesty International poster competition.

5th and 6th class entertained the crowd with a raucous performance of a Christmas Song medley as Gaeilge to get everyone in the mood!

Pupils and Students of the month prizes for the Junior and Senior Schools were awarded before a very special guest arrived to much excitement!

6th class played two more songs on the tin whistle before we concluded our Assembly with the entire school joyfully belting out three more Christmas songs – All I want for Christmas, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells.

From all of us at St. Mary’s NS, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
