Visit to Dundalk Recycling Centre

This morning Mrs. Farren and Ms. Quinn took some members of the Greenschool Committee to Dundalk Recycling Centre on the Newry road to see all the services they provide. We were already aware of how to dispose of paper and food waste in an environmentally sympathetic fashion but today’s mission was to see how we can be eco friendly with our electronic waste. At school we collect used batteries for Barretstown, a charity which funds holiday camps for very sick children. But what happens when we want to save our planet and recycle electrical goods?  Today,we discovered  how easy it is to dispose of all electrical waste including large items such as fridges and televisions. All you have to do is bring any electrical goods to the centre and they will recycle them for free! They are then sorted and reused for manufacturing new parts for goods such as washing machines, dishwashers, freezers,in fact, anything electrical that you can think of!What a wonderful way to be kind to the earth!Emma in the recycling centre sent us back to school with some bags of completely recycled, organic compost for use in our school environs and also recycled pieces of glass which we are definitely looking forward to putting to good use in art class. All in all,a thoroughly enjoyable and informative visit.
